God’s Word for Today - 17 May 2024
Mark 12:14 KJV — And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Reflection on God’s Word for Today - 17 May 2024
Tax avoidance and tax evasion are behaviours people engage in with much audacity. While the world views the former to be less harmful than the latter, I believe both are immoral and possibly illegal. I know there could be plausible arguments in support of tax avoidance, but when things are properly illuminated one finds some semblance of illegality in declarations made to avoid paying the tax. It is usually walking a tightrope in the grey zone between what is legal and what is criminal. And Christ emphatically teaches full obedience to the law of taxation without looking to exploit whatever loopholes may exist in those laws. I imagine there are millions of Christ followers who walk in that grey zone because they don’t realise it is not the right thing to do, and there are also some who know but choose to follow the world rather than Jehovah. If you belong to either of these groups, please refrain from avoiding or evading paying your due taxes. Let the light of Christ in you shine forth.
Pray: Jehovah Jireh, You provide for me and meet my needs, help me to fully obey the rightful laws of the land. #Mok
