Reflection on God’s Word for Today - 12 Oct 2025
This scripture is one of many that are often misinterpreted, misused or abused by people who refuse to properly contextualise it. First, let me explain that while it primarily relates to biological parents, it also applies to guardians and those who exercise parental authority and caring responsibility over the individual. It is equally important to stress that the scripture doesn’t enjoin blind obedience, rather it expects obedience guided by common law and that doesn’t violate the principles of Christ. You are not obligated to obey anyone, no matter who they are, who is asking you to commit an illegality or to walk in disobedience to Jehovah. You can humbly disobey such a person, knowing that Jehovah will be pleased with you for doing so.
