Those who follow Christ are called to a life that is countercultural to the acceptable culture of today’s world. For them prioritising others before oneself to love and to honour takes the prime of place and it is one of the marks of true discipleship. What one sees in many churches and among churchgoers is the opposite of this ideal behaviour. One observes people who are fiercely engaged in elbowing one another and putting hindrances in the way to stop their fellow congregants from reaching their goals. There is hidden jealousy and envy of one another and a lot of backstabbing takes place. Such people hinder the Holy Spirit by their behaviour and blame God for not answering their prayers.
