The desire to be rich at all costs is such a powerful and destructive force that causes millions of people to be willing to commit despicable atrocities against humanity. It often starts with deliberately telling lies and making false statements for personal gains. People tell lies to secure jobs, win contracts and to avoid or even evade paying taxes that are due to the government. Some are happy to bear false witness against others in exchange for money, not caring what damage that may do to those they are witnessing falsely against. But today’s scripture makes us understand that a poor person is better than a liar. That is to say that anyone who values their integrity above riches is more honourable in God’s sight than the one who is a rich lying fool. I urge you to quit lying in your pursuit of wealth. Choose honesty as your trademark.
