God’s Word for Today – 14 June 2026
1 Corinthians 12:31 (KJV): But covet earnestly the best gifts: and yet shew I unto you a more excellent way.
Reflection on God’s Word for Today – 14 June 2026
Many people in the church world believe that covetousness is wholly and completely forbidden, but they are wrong in that, because as we see in today’s scripture, the bible enjoins people to covet certain gifts. God bestows humans with gifts and talents mainly to serve others and not for self gratification, especially when it comes to spiritual gifts. Genuinely desiring such gifts from a pure selfless motive is in line with God’s will for everyone of His children and God is certain to oblige anyone who asks. But when you ask to consume it on what you lust for, that is contrary to God’s will, and you are asking in vain. So, I implore you to let your desires be out of love to please God and serve others in love. Anything short of that is anathema and must be avoided.
Pray: Omniscient God, You know every desire of humans, train my heart to desire only excellent gifts. #Mok
