Jonah 1:6 (KJV): So the shipmaster came to him, and said unto him, What meanest thou, O sleeper? arise, call upon thy God, if so be that God will think upon us, that we perish not.

Reflection on God’s Word for Today - 19 Feb 2026

There are situations when a people may be in peril and are close to being destroyed. Everyone at that time must be involved in finding a way out of the danger. Sadly, more often than not, seeking God’s help is always the last thing they think to do. In various communities around the world where those who trust in Christ are being persecuted and face the risk of death, it is not uncommon to find churches in deep slumber vis-à-vis praying fervently to Jehovah. They focus on grumbling about lack of security and blaming the government of the land instead of rising up and calling upon Christ to defend them and fight for them. This is what the sailors in today’s scripture realised and asked Jonah to wake up and pray to Jehovah for their rescue. You must arise and call upon God in the day of trouble.
