But for the fallen human nature, the character traits that today’s scripture enjoins those who have been saved by Christ to cultivate would not have been necessary. But these traits now have to be learned and embedded until they become habits that are mundane. Many who are outside of the church are looking for these traits to be revealed in those who claim to be Christ followers and are quick to point out when that is not the case. And this is sadly often the case because many in churches are not kind, not even to fellow believers. How then can any such person claim to be light of the world and salt of the earth when they refuse to show the most basic expression of love to their fellows? You must learn to show your faith in Christ by the good works you do so others can glorify God.
