God’s Word for Today – 30 June 2026
Mark 12:14 (KJV): And when they were come, they say unto him, Master, we know that thou art true, and carest for no man: for thou regardest not the person of men, but teachest the way of God in truth: Is it lawful to give tribute to Caesar, or not?
Reflection on God’s Word for Today – 30 June 2026
I have had debates with some people who are followers of Christ on the matter of fulfilling their obligations to the government of the day and many hold positions that are contrary to Christ’s teachings. For example, the Bible admonishes that people pray for those in authority, so that we may live peacefully. Instead, they disparage those who God has placed in leadership and wonder why things are pear-shaped. We are enjoined to pay our taxes faithfully, but many followers of Christ indulge in the worldly practices of tax avoidance and tax evasion, and some justify their disobedience by claiming that the government is wasteful, corrupt, and unaccountable. God is aware of the corruption, wastefulness, and lack of accountability and God insists that you pray for them and pay your taxes for good reasons. If you are in this camp, I urge you to desist and start obeying God so that it may be well with you.
Pray: Gracious God, I have fallen short of Your expectation in not fulfilling my duty to the government, please have mercy and forgive me. #Mok
